If you purchase a good quality vacuum it should last for years. Many vacuums will easily last for 10 or 20 years or more. To increase the longevity for the vacuum, when something gets stuck in the intake, clean it out as soon as possible. If there’s a belt problem or issue with the roller brush not moving, turn off the vacuum to avoid damage to the motor with causing the motor to overheat. Change the vacuum bag when needed to avoid extra work for the vacuum and to have the vacuum operating at peak cleaning. I have a Hoover that’s more than 20 years old, and it still runs and cleans great.

I heard on Home Shopping Network that the average life of an average vacuum cleaner is one year, that’s why they have one year warantees. They base this information on the idea that the average American vacuums for about one hour one time per week. I don't however thInk this is true. I vacuum more than 5 times per week, and our last two vacuums Eureka the Boss Power and Bissell Power Force Bagless (which we still have) have lasted for about 4 years.
Answer:
It depends on the vacuum and if you get yearly maintance done.. My MIL and her MIL both have KIRBY'S they got as wedding gifts… One is 40 yrs. old and the other is 60yrs. old. The reason that they have lasted so long is they take them in for yearly or bi-yearly clean/check and fixes.. Which cost anywhere from $12-$25 depending on the age of the vacuum/model.
I use my vacuum EVERYDAY. I also clean houses part-time so I use it at various residences. I take my vacuum in 2x-3x a yr. for an overall clean and check… It gets taken apart and cleaned inside/out so basically it's a brand new vacuum when I get it back.. I've had little to no trouble with my vacuum… I also purchased the extended warranty which has helped me many, many times…
So, if you take good care of your vacuum and keep it maintained it should last you a long time..
Good luck
Answer:
Should be good for a decade, if properly maintenanced. Meaning, you untangle any snags and don't try to vacuum up pennies and that.
